MichaelDukakis

Michael Dukakis is best known for his role in politics. He is the former governor of Massachusetts's and was also the democratic presidential nominee in 1988. Between the years 1962 and 1970 Dukakis was in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. After all of his hard work between 1962 and 1970 Dukakis was elected Governor of Massachusetts in 1974 defeating Republican Francis W. Sargent. Dukakis campaign strategy involved promising to be a “reformer” and promising not to increase state’s taxes. Sadly soon after he took office he broke his pledge and raised taxes. Although he had broken some of his promises the public still liked Dukakis and voted for him to be Governor again from 1983 until 1991. In 1998 Dukakis was a presidential candidate for the Democratic Party. Dukakis had his fare share of problems during his run for president. During his campaign Dukakis mental health was questioned when he refused to release his medical records. Dukakis was being questioned if he had gone through psychiatric treatment in the past, but refused to answer. Although Dukakis did not win the race he still had many accolades as Governor of Massachusetts. Dukakis is a family man, married to Katherine he has three children named John, Andrea, and Kara. During his final years as Governor he was marked by many criticisms. The public did not agree with his policy on expanding taxes to cover expanded government. After the end of his term he became a professor of political science and also joined the board of directors for Amtrak.
